The Canadian Rocky Mountains are home to some of the largest land mammals in North America. I have been lucky enough to come across at least one of these animals almost every time I go into the mountains, from rocky mountain sheep gathered together with their young, to a heard of elk high on the mountain side. Turning a corner and having a moose staring back at you is a treat I will never get bored with, especially when they allow me to get close enough to photograph them before they turn and vanish into the trees. One of the best encounters I've experienced was being stared down by a massive bison bull while trying to get as many shots as I could. Due to their extremely low numbers, I had to travel to Elk Island National Park to see them. The trip was well worth it when we found a massive group of males, females, and babies.
This page shows the pleasant surprises I've had over the years, and leave plenty of room for more adventures to come. There are more animals I hope to find, and hopefully one day the chance will present itself.
